Effective

Effective horizontal barrier against wall moisture

If water is rising in the masonry, a mechanical horizontal barrier is the most effective solution to stop the rising damp and dry out damp walls. For this reason, our company has developed an innovative method of drainage using a horizontal barrier that protects walls effectively, permanently and gently from rising damp.

Our HW horizontal barriers are rustproof and weather-resistant stainless steel plates with tapered edges that are driven into the bed joint using a special process. There they overlap and form an impermeable seal that prevents water from rising and allows the masonry above the barrier to dry out.

The patented horizontal barrier from HW-Mauertrockenlegung - an effective solution for damp walls.

Drainage in just one step

Separating the wall and installing the panels is carried out in a single work step, which means that only one appointment is usually required for draining.

Refurbishment

The masonry above the horizontal barrier dries out and can then be restored or replastered.

For which

For which buildings is the HW horizontal barrier suitable?

The HW horizontal barrier is suitable for masonry with a horizontal bed joint. The barrier can be driven into masonry up to 1 m thick from one side.

The HW horizontal barrier is the ideal solution for retrofitting in old buildings and listed buildings. In basements, the horizontal barrier in combination with a vertical barrier or external waterproofing can be a sensible solution against penetrating moisture. Our professional partners will advise you individually on site during a damage analysis.

This is how

How water gets into the masonry

There are many causes of rising damp in masonry. The reason is often a lack of, faulty or inadequate sealing, which does not adequately protect the building fabric from water.

Masonry is porous - the network of small capillary tubes in the building fabric absorbs moisture like a sponge. This then rises capillarily and spreads through the walls.

As the masonry dries out in the transition area from wet to dry, crystals of masonry salts form. These have a larger volume than the water in liquid form and will break off the plaster. It is therefore important to ensure adequate waterproofing quickly.

Signs

Signs of moisture in the masonry

  • Peeling plaster
  • Impairment of the building fabric
  • Dark discoloration on the wall
  • Mold, dry rot (especially in the cellar)
  • Increased humidity
  • Musty smell despite ventilation
  • Chilly cold in the room
  • Poorer thermal insulation of the walls
